It’s amazing how you can live in an area for a long time, yet completely miss out on its hidden gems.
Thanks to a Facebook page, I recently came across a place called Weltevreden Farm. It’s in an area I frequent often, yet I knew nothing of it.

Imagine having coffee and cake in the cool shade of tall, sweet smelling pines. Chicken’s foraging in the shrubbery around you. You don’t hear much but the murmurings of people at the next table and a swish in the pine leaves. Somewhere seemingly far off in the distance you hear the cars on John Forster Drive. This is what Second Cup coffee shop is like. Minus the Coffee and Cake, that’s what the whole of Weltvreden Farm is like.

Weltevreden Farm has mishmash of really cool shops, which are all dotted around the large (by today’s standards) property. Some free standing shops, like Just Flowers and Ribbon Fields are nestled away amongst lush gardens, while other shops are in what was once the old farm house, and its outbuildings. There is also a really great nursery, Freestyle Gardens, whose staff are always helpful and whose prices are very competitive if not better than most.

Ribbon fields are a stockist of everything needle work related and they also offer classes.

Good books is the place to go if you want really decent second hand books at great prices.

Art classes

They have also started doing Saturday markets, with stalls outside selling various wares and foods.
It’s well worth a visit, during the week when you’re in dire need of a cuppa and a slice of cake in a quiet spot. Or on the weekend when you need to get out of the house, find some colour for your garden and a good book to curl up with.

Beautifully done, Ash. Lovely pics. Looks just like your kind of place. I love the “If we are shut, go away” touch.
