The car park is a buzz of activity, with car doors opening and closing and the occupants jumping out in an extravagant and frenzied hurry. Anticipation hangs heavy in the air.
Commands of; “stop!” “stay!” and “wait!” are quite famously ignored.
The lure of expansive rolling lawns, large dams and the promise of camaraderie is made quite evident by the excited barks and yaps of a pack of city slicker dogs.
Tails wagging greetings, like old friends waving hello across a crowded room.
Stiff legged approaches and copious amount of sniffing goes on, and then they’re off, sprinting across the lawns. FREEDOM!
It’s a Sunday morning, and the Walkhaven dog park is hosting a fund raising day for FORA (FORA is a non-profit pro-life animal haven for dogs and cats)
The Walkhaven dog park is situated on a lovely plot in the Muldersdrift area, where a lot of the dedicated city dwelling dog lovers bring their pooches for a much needed stroll. Some of the country folk bring their dogs too, to “socialise” although I think this may be an excuse to go to the pet friendly restaurant, or the pub. 😉
It’s a cool place to go even if you don’t have a dog, to meet and greet all the different breeds. All the colours shapes and sizes you can image, and to watch them frolicking in the dams and bounding round the lawns.
On this particular day I left our pack of hounds at home, and went with camera in hand to get a few candid pics:
Nothing quite beats the unfailing love one receives from a dog. I was going to say “from owning a dog”, but you never really own a dog; you can call yourself privileged if a dog owns you.
So for all you Jozi dog ‘owners’, who don’t know what to do on a weekend morning, why not take your dog/s to Walkhaven?
Spend some time out in the open, enjoying the happiness of your ever faithful hound.
